Today, competition for covid-19 vaccine and drug manufacturing is gaining momentum around the world. Meanwhile, the announcement of the Indian Yoga Guru, Baba Ramdev has raised aray of hope by claiming to produce first ayurvedic medicine to heal Covod-19 however on the other hand, the government expressed their concerns over the claim made by Ramdev. So let talk about what is “Coronil pill and Swasthi Vati” and see is it effective for treatment of Covid-19?
It was announced by Baba Ramdev on Tuesday 23 June 2020 that the cure for corona has been found.
“Coronil pill and Swasari Vati” which is a Ayurvedic based medicine and capable of 100% cure of Covid-19 cases. A few hours after this announcement, notice was issued by the Health Ministry (AYUSH Mantralay) , Govt. of India that before making it available in the market, complete research and related details should be made available, drug advertisements were also banned.
After the notice from the Health Ministry, several claims related to Coronil medicine were made by Baba Ramdev and Patanjali Limited, saying that clinical trials are favorable except in patients with “Jeewan rakshak pranali”(life saving system). But due to lack of scientific study, it remained in a state of controversy. Notice was again issued by the Ministry that the details should include information related to the location of the hospitals and the tests conducted and the study of the entire research.
In the aforesaid disputed situations, in the case of Corona drug in Rajasthan, an FIR was registered under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Offensive Advertising Act 1954, according to which it was alleged that the claim made by Baba Ramdev was false and he could not establish his verification and it could endanger the lives of millions of people.
An alleged statement was also issued by Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh that drug advertisements and promotions should be banned until permission is given by central government’s Health Ministry.
Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand government also issued a notice regarding the alleged drug of Corona. It may be noted that earlier the license was issued by the Ayurveda Department of Uttarakhand, but on the issue of notice by the government, the firm was informed that Patanjali Limited was granted license for immunity boosters, cough and fever-curing drugs in the state only. There is no mention of covid-19 in the given application.
Apart from the Uttarakhand government, Patanjali faced many controversies in Bihar as well. Baba Ramdev’s demand for medicine was increasing even in the face of many controversial cases.
Finally, after providing information related to studies and research by Patanjali Ayurveda Limited, a statement was issued by the Union Ministry that Patanjali cannot market its medicine as a treatment for covid-19, it is made available only in the market as an anti-inflammatory product.
