thyroid cause symptoms treatment

In today’s time it is common for women to have thyroid. In this blog we will understand what the science behind thyroid says. What type of it is and what are its symptoms and remedies.

Yes, the thyroid is a disease, but before the disease, we can name it the endocrine gland of the human body.

There are two types of glands in the human body – Endocrine and Exocrine gland

The endocrine glands secrete hormones in the blood while the exocrine glands secrete enzymes. Initially, the endocrine glands were thought to be separate from each other, but later it was seen that all these are interlinked. The brain is the centre of all endocrine glands. One of the major endocrine glands found in the body is the thyroid gland.

Thyroid gland is found in the throat of the human, ( similar to the image shown ) on both sides of the trachea. The thyroid gland consists of 2 lobes and both lobes are connected to the thin flap by the connective tissue.

There are two types of tissue in thyroid gland

1. Follicular tissue
2. Stromal tissue

There are follicular cells inside the follicular tissue. Follicular cells release two types of hormones

1. Tetraiodothyronine / thyroxin T4
2. Triiodothyronine / T3

The above hormones balance the amount of iodine present in the body and the deterioration of its balance causes a disease called thyroid. Thyroid disease can occur in two ways. When iodine is high in the body then it’s called ‘Hyperthyroidism’ and when iodine is reduced in the body is called ‘Hypothyroidism’.

Under this, there is a deficiency of iodine in the body. Then thyroid gland To meet this deficiency, it starts increasing its size (increase in TSH and decrease in T3 / T4) and those cells start accumulating near human throat which is called goitre disease.

During pregnancy, the levels of many hormones in women increase and decrease which increase the chances of hypothyroidism , due to which the baby growing in the womb is unable to develop and starts to become malnourished, along with stunted growth, mental retardation, Defectiveness is seen in low intelligence quotient, abnormal skin, deaf mutism etc. The menstrual cycle of women also becomes irregular due to hypothyroidism.

Due to cancer of thyroid gland or due to development of nodules of thyroid glands , the rate of synthesis of of and secretion of thyroid hormone is increase to abnormal high level leading to condition called hyperthyroidism which adversely affect the body physiology.
